The company that made Beanie Babies has new dolls called "Sweet Sasha" and "Marvelous Malia." Creators Ty Inc. say that the 12-inch plush dolls are part of the company's "TyGirlz Collection," and are not supposed to resemble the Obama daughters. According to spokeswoman Tania Lundeen, TY Inc. chose the names "Sweet Sasha" and "Marvelous Malia" because "they are beautiful names," but not because of any resemblance to President Barack Obama's daughters.
There's nothing on the dolls that refers to the Obama girls," Lundeen said. It would not be fair to say they are exact replications of these girls. They are not.
Denise Gary Robinson, president of DollsLikeMe.com, says that these dolls have the potential of being succesful: "Girls all over the world, of all colors, will be looking for these dolls. They want to identify with these two girls," Robinson said.
