Ashlyn was born with a rare, genetic disorder called 1p36 Deletion syndrome, a condition caused by a missing part of chromosome 1.

1p36 Deletion Syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects one of the most vital parts of a human’s DNA. The short arm (p) of Chromosome 1 (the largest human chromosome that accounts for 8 percent of a person’s DNA) in band 36 is missing in people with this condition. This causes problems with both physical and mental development. Other symptoms include seizures as well as deficiencies in both the hearing and vision departments (Source).
