Lucia Benet holds up the peace sign in her first photo op. Proud papa Eric Benet was not shy to show his little girl breastfeeding. According to statistics, less than 40% of infants under six months of age are breastfed. This is low considering that breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival.
Over one million infants die prematurely every year due to lack of nutrients that can be found in breast milk. Children who are breastfed at 3 months are more healthy than those who are given formula at that age. Breastfeeding also establishes a bond between mother and child that is not feasible with bottle feeding.
Kudos to the Benet family for promoting breastfeeding!
