Fifty is a milestone age for Michelle Obama. In addition to becoming more aware of who she is as a wife and political figure, the mother of two has become more acquainted with who her daughters are through various conversations with them.

“You’re more confident, you know yourself more, you’re not concerned about what other people think,” says the First Lady of being 50-years-old. “You watch your kids grow up and I know, my girls, they’re starting to become real people with opinions and it’s just so much fun to talk to them now.”

Although officially eligible for AARP benefits, Michelle doesn’t allow her golden age to stand in the way of her fitness efforts. “Barack and I work out together every single morning,” explains the First Lady. “I get up in the morning, usually either right before the kids go to school or right after, and I do about an hour and a half workout. I try to do 45 minutes of cardio and then whatever I’m doing that day.”

Michelle Obama has been an advocate for healthy living since entering the White House with her husband in 2008. The First Lady has inspired thousands to get active through her ‘Let’s Move’ campaign, which puts good nutrition and exercise at the forefront of wellness. Mrs. Obama turned 50-years-old on January 17, 2014. Sasha and Malia are her daughters with her husband, President Barack Obama.
