Julez is making beats and rhymes like uncle Jay-Z but a recording artist is the last thing that mom Solange Knowles wants her son to be.
“It’s certainly not what I have in mind for him,” says the recording artist to Harpers Bazaar. “I’m constantly trying to push him to work at the U.N., or be a diplomat. I try to convince him by explaining that he wouldn’t have to wait in lines at the airport, and that he can park anywhere. ”
Although she’s encouraging him to choose another career, Solange understands the passion that a true artist has when it comes to working in the field. “My parents constantly tried to talk me out of being an artist,” explains the star. “They had gone through the whole journey with my sister and just wanted me to have a normal teenage life.”
Solange and Daniel Smith divorced several years ago but still manage to keep a working relationship. “We co-parent really well,” shares the artist. “I’m able to say, ‘I need to finish this album, can you step up and take care of the boy?'”
Solange and Daniel wed in 2004 and divorced in 2007. Julez is the former couple’s only child together.
