Can you believe it’s been two years since J.R. Martinez and Diana Gonzalez-Jones welcomed their first child into the world? It seems like just yesterday that the actor was talking about the excitement of being dad to a newborn and now he’s giving fathers-to-be parental advice.
“It’s crazy how the time flies,” says J.R. to Robert “Daddy” Nickell. “As a parent you have to enjoy the moments. When you’re catching up to one thing all of a sudden she’s learning something else and she’s doing something else and you’ve got to catch up to that.”
Although catching up is sometimes challenging, Martinez advises new dads to never miss a beat. “Speak to them while they’re in the tummy because they recognize your voice,” shares the actor. “As long as you’re preparing and learning, you’ll be fine. If you make a mistake it’s not the end of the world. Children are resilient, they adapt, they just make it work. There were a couple times when I put the diaper on backwards!”
Lauryn Anabelle Martinez was born on May 2, 2012. She celebrates her second birthday today.
