AMANDLA STENBERG ASKS: ‘WHAT IF AMERICA LOVED BLACK PEOPLE AS MUCH AS BLACK CULTURE?’

Stenberg

What would America be like of it loved Black people as much as it loves Black culture? That is the question that Amandla Stenberg and numerous others are asking. The Hunger Games star recently shared an informative video in which she talked about the evolution of urban culture, which stems from Hip Hop.

Amandla addressed everything from hair to Hip Hop music, and the many white artists who have capitalized off African American culture in the current century. Stenberg pointed out that “at the same time, police brutality against black people came to the forefront.” She went on to talk about the numerous African American men who have been murdered by law enforcement since George Zimmerman, a self-proclaimed neighborhood watchman, killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin three years ago. “People began to protest institutional racism by marching and using social media,” said Amandla.

Although several white artists have made a fortune off Black culture, Stenberg pointed out that few have advocated for racial equality. Amandla ended her video by asking, “What if America Loved Black People as Much as Black Culture?”
