Idris Elba was the man of the hour at the 2016 SAG Awards. The Beasts of No Nation was the recipient of two awards, and had his daughter with him to celebrate.
Isan was all smiles while accompanying her father on the red carpet. The teen wore a pretty dress that was festive yet fitting for the event. The shades of blue in her dress coordinated well with her father’s tie.
“I want to tell you man, we made a film about real people and real lives,” Elba said during his acceptance speech for his Best Supporting Actor Award earned for his role in Beasts of No Nation. “To be awarded for it is very special, because a lot of people were damaged through that. So thank you for giving this film some respect and love.”
Idris also won an award for his stellar performance in Luther. “You wait for one bus and TWO come along at the same time,” he tweeted.
Many fans believe that Idris was snuffed out of an Oscar nomination due to the lack of diversity in the selection process. The star, however, took everything in good spirits by referencing the controversy with humor at the SAG Awards. “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to diverse TV,” Idris said during his and co-star Abraham Attah’s introduction segment.
The 88th Academy Awards will be held on February 28, 2016.
