Tika Sumpter was bumpin’ and styling at the New York premiere of Southside With You. The screening was held at Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema in New York City.

Tika, who wore a blue dress to the premiere, struck a few poses on the red carpet before going into the venue to view the movie. The actress showed off her uniquely designed outfit that had zippers near the bottom and in the middle of the dress.

Sumpter stars as Michelle Robinson in Southside With You. The film tells the story of a young Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers) courting his future wife while aspiring to be a politician in Chicago. Sparks fly on the first date and the two decide to navigate the choppy waters of life together.

Although she is somewhat of a seasoned actress, Tika Sumpter reveals that she was a bit anxious to portray Mrs. Obama onset. “I was nervous because, one, she’s so beloved by everybody,” the actress shares. “But then, I just stripped away the Michelle Obama and just took it back to the South Side of Chicago with the Michelle Robinson … I went back to her family. I was like ‘That’s my family.’ Her dad worked for the city for years. Her mom instilled so much self-esteem in her.”
