Great news! Moonlight star Mahershala Ali and his wife, Amatus Sami-Karim, are expecting a child. The actor shared the splendid news with his Instagram fans on Thursday night.

Mahershala’s announcement was simple with a candid of him standing beside his wife who was cradling her bump. “Blessings on Blessings on Blessings,” one fan wrote. “Congrats to you both,” another follower exclaimed.

Ali portrays Juan, a drug dealer who takes the main character under his wings, in Moonlight. The film’s storyline chronicles a young man named Chiron who comes of age in an urban neighborhood in Miami. Mahershala makes every effort to do justice to the storyline with his incredible acting.

“I just do the best work I can and hopefully it resonates with them because it’s about the story,” Ali tells ET Online. “I’ve been spoiled in that I’ve gotten to work with some really amazing people; it all starts with the project and how good it is.”

Mahershala, who comes from a lineage steeped in show business,  creates empathy for his character who is the tough guy with a soft spot. “My task is to make these people human,” Ali reveals. “Often the characters in my acting experience were there to help push the story along, so I’m always fighting to find the shaft of light where I can wedge an opening and make the character real. That’s a muscle a lot of people of color have to work to be successful in this industry,” he explains.
