CELEBRITY STYLIST CREATES LARGER-THAN-LIFE LOOKS FOR YARA SHAHIDI

For many, having multi-ethnic hair has traditionally been a wonderful challenge of learning how to successfully tame the curl. Yet, with stars like Yara Shahidi and Skai Jackson embracing their natural texture, traditional hairstyles have become free-flowing and stylish like never before. Sixteen-year-old Shahidi took time out of her busy schedule to sit down with Mane Addicts, celebrity hair stylist and Mizani Global Artistic Director Cesar Ramirez to create several larger-than-life looks that will blow you away.

Shahidi is seen every week on the hit ABC television show, Black-ish and her looks, from head to toe, on the show and in real life, are ever changing. When asked by Mane Addicts if she had a signature hairstyle that describes her the best, Shahidi stated, “I am most ‘Yara’ when my curls are doing what they do! I have never had the same hairstyle twice because my curls have their own personality. My curly journey has been a fun one, yet nonetheless difficult. It most definitely hasn’t been overnight and I know the struggle of throwing out the curling irons and flat combs,” she admits. “Being an actress, many times our hair is overworked, so it has been rewarding learning how to care for my curls whenever, wherever. And I’ve gone a year with no heat!”

We are all too familiar with that particular struggle. For Shahidi though, she is lucky to have found a hair care routine that helps her achieve the look she wants. “I gently cleanse and condition my curls every couple of days. My curls have been loving Deva Curl Light Defining Gel along with Almond Oil from Mielle Organics,” the actress confesses. “While they air dry, I clip them up in loose Bantu knots, (for more defined curls and body).” However, the product that she can’t live life without would have to be the Mielle Organics Almond Oil.

As of February 10th, Shahidi is looking forward to turning 17! After her birthday, right around the corner, comes another teenage milestone—prom. Every girl that has attended prom plans for months before the big date and of course, Shahidi is no different. When asked which of the looks Ramirez created for her would find its way to prom, Shahidi said, “The slicked back pony tail with nice textured hair in the back was to die for, coupled with a funky dress, it would be the perfect prom look. As long as I can do the robot, I am happy.” We cannot wait to see pictures of that!
