Yara Shahidi is counting down the days until she, in both real life and on her hit ABC television show, Black-ish, marks a major milestone in life-high school graduation.

The talented teen took time out of her busy schedule to sit down with funny man Jimmy Kimmel and talk about this exciting rite of passage, discussing everything from how she turned one application in just under the wire to her letter of recommendation from Michelle Obama. Shahidi will graduate prior to resuming her season four shoot schedule on Black-ish; therefore, in the spirit of continuing the countdown to graduation, Shahidi’s Black-ish family recently surprised the teen with a pre-graduation graduation ceremony, including cap & gown, and of course, diploma.
