MOVIE WATCH: WILL SMITH TO PORTRAY GENIE IN ‘ALADDIN’ REMAKE

It’s official! Will Smith and Naomi Scott will make up the cast of Disney’s  reboot of Aladdin. The production company delivered the exciting news this past weekend. Naomi will portray Princess Jasmine in the live-action remake while Will will take on the character of Genie.

Smith has quite the tall order to fulfill as the late Robin Williams was cast as Genie in the original animated film. Will’s background in music, however, will definitely play a key role in his success since the upcoming remake will have a heavy reliance on songs.

Some will remember the 1992 Aladdin film that further solidified Disney’s consistent brilliance. The movie, loosely based on an Arabic folklore in which a young man has three wishes granted to him by a genie, was the highest-grossing major motion picture of the year with its song, “A Whole New World,” snagging an Academy Award months after its debut.

Will the remake be just as great, if not greater, than the original, though? Possibly so. Will Smith has certainly made his mark in Hollywood with a multi-million dollar production company and several successful movie flicks. And who can forget the actor’s famous series, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Just epic.

Naomi Scott, too, has experienced several highs in her career. Her most recent gig as Pink Ranger Kimberly in the 2017 production of Power Rangers is bound to garner additional notoriety.

Stay tuned for more details surrounding the Aladdin remake, including who else Disney is planning to cast for the film!
