Highlighting fatherhood in a positive manner, more often than not, tends to take a backseat to motherhood. Well, an upcoming docuseries on PBS is seeking to change that. In POPS: Fatherhood, the Untold Story, which will premiere on October 26th, Peabody award-winning filmmaker Garland McLaurin will highlight black fatherhood in America.
The 11-part series will follow three African-American fathers who hail from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds as they navigate parenthood.
“It’s a great opportunity to reach a large audience with Pops on Indie Lens Storycast,” says McLaurin in a press release about the documentary. “My hope is that these portraits of African-American dads will shed light on the beautiful and daunting experience of fatherhood and dispel myths about Black men and parenting.”
Following its debut, new episodes of the docuseries will premiere every Thursday, well into January, with episodes ranging from 5-8 minutes each.
